AUTHORIZED LIMITS of ITEMS WITHIN INMATE MAIL                                                                                                          NEW mail Regs as of February 24, 2009

These items are allowed with your letters, children's drawings, and newspaper clippings, within the First Class incoming mail, for the General Population Inmates. The maximum weight for first class is a 13 ounces envelope. The envelope must be plain and easy to search. Not padded, bubble, or cardboard. First Class is NOT parcels such as Library, Priority, media, and Parcel Post rates.

Photographs
Maximum size 8" x 10"
No Polaroid, negatives, slides, or photo albums. No photographs,
pictorials, or description of; sexually explicit, or showing frontal nudity
of either gender, gands, weapons, drugs, fighting techniques, or unlawful activities.

Blank Greeting Cards
10 maximum, with plain white attached envelopes                                                                         

Postage Embossed
Envelopes                        
40 maximum, (pre-printed). Do not stick regular stamps on envelopes.
NO security lining, cardboard or colors. No decorations.                                                         
Blank Envelopes           
40 maximum, Plain White. ALL envelopes must be WHITE.
NO security lining, cardboard or colored types. NO other types that inhibit searching ability.

Paper (Binder)
WHITE or YELLOW lined only.
Inmate may only possess up to 500 sheets total at one time.
REMEMBER!!!! You can only send in up to 13 ounces of paper at one time,
which is only around 110 sheets!
NO cotton paper. No colored paper.
This is NOT decorated type stationary
with pictures and drawings.
Writing Tablets
4 Maximum: White or yellow lined.
Gummed binding allowed.
NO CARDBOARD or spiral binding on tablets.                     
Typing Paper
8 1/2" x 11" Plain Blank WHITE ONLY.
NO color, pictures, textures, etc.                                                  
Legal Paper
11" x 14" Plain Blank WHITE
(Exemption to white on Legal paper will only
be allowed if requirement by court rules is
proven. )                   

Postage stamps              
40 maximum                                    
Write the inmate's name and CDCR# on postage stamp back or packaging for identification, if lost.
Checks & Money Orders
NO CASH!
Send separate to PO Box 94 only
Inmate's name and CDCR# must be written on it.                                                                                      

UNAUTHORIZED ITEMS WITHIN MAIL:
These are some of the items within regular mail that cause the inability to deliver it to an Inmate and/or a delay in processing. the undeliverable mail may be destroyed, donated, or mailed out at the Inmate's expense.

    NO laminated items, stickers, labels, or glued on items. (Glitter, string, lace, stickers, etc.)

    NO hard plastic, metal, or wood, fabric, cardboard items.

    NO padded envelopes (bubble, cardboard, or other padding)

    NO item(s) that are unable to be searched without destroying.

    NO item(s) that jeoparize the safety and security of the institution (such as maps, keys, credit cards, etc.).

    NO mail containing unknown substances or body fluids; Powders, liquids, solids, perfumes, etc.

    NO stationary supplies not listed above; NO pens, pencils, stationary, colored paper, etc.
