PROBLEMS WITH GLOBAL TEL LINK 9-11-07 : Global Tel*Link (GTL) is the name of the phone company that has taken over the MCI accounts for the CA state prisons. Customers have had problems with GTL. Those problems range from payments not being credited to your account, a block placed on your phone line when you still have money available on your account, or even your balance not showing up correctly when you check your account online. Additionally, the 15 minute call dollar amount has increased due to the change of companies. When you call and request to speak to a Supervisor you are told that they are not allowed to transfer to a Supervisor…. Customer service can be spotty.

I myself have had 1st hand experience of problems with GTL. I went ahead and made a complaint online with the UCAN (Utility Consumers' Action Network) @ www.ucan.org . I was contacted by a representative from the UCAN and was told that they believe that Global Tel Link is out of compliance with some of the CA utility laws.

I did tell him that I know many other people that have had problems with GTL and he said he would like to hear from all of you. So if you've had any problems with Global Tel Link please call
Vince Andrews from UCAN at (619) 696-6966 or via email at vince@ucan.org . You can let him know that Lisa (which is me) has passed his information on to you. He is doing an investigation on GTL and is asking for input from everyone.

He has also recommended that if you have had a problem with GTL you should also file a complaint with the California Public Utilities Commission at http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/static/forms/complaints/index/htm .
