Visiting APPOINTMENTS
and
Friends Outside
1. NEW VISITING APPOINTMENTS:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at 559-665-8950
The Visitor Processing Center at VSPW has begun implimenting a NEW reservation appointment program!
You can make appointments up to 4 weeks in advance for any slots available on the sign-on lists (i.e., for both Saturday and Sunday).
You may sign up at the prison during regular visiting hours, or you may call in for an appointment. The call-in times are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 1 PM to 3 PM. Call 559-665-8950.
Under the new system, the Visitor Processing Center will start processing appointments at 8:30 AM. They will process 18 families every 15 minutes. That means that there will be 18 appointments processed at 8:30 AM, 18 appointments at 8:45 AM, and 18 appointments at 9:00 AM.
After 9:00 AM, they will begin taking families by a number system. You need to pick up a number at Visiting when you get there, so you will have a chance to be processed after 9 AM. The Visitor Processing Center will still be opening at 6:00 AM if you want to come early to get a number. Of course, you can pick up a number any time you get there after 6:00 AM.
If you have questions, you can email me (at Webmaster, below) and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. Or you may try calling Visiting at 559-665-6100, extension 5710. They will try to get back to you, but there may be a delay, due to call volume.
E-mail your questions and/or experiences with this new procedure to me at:
Webmaster
Thank you for any feedback you can give us.
IMPORTANT!! The Visiting Department wants to remind early visitors should have their ONE DOLLAR BILLS with them when they get to the prison. The Food Services Contractor is not always available to provide change, and the Visiting Department cannot provide change at the counter.
ALL PERSONS with an appointment should be ready to enter the prison. Follow all guidelines; no jeans, no cell phones, etc. If we keep this system moving smoothly, more people will be able to get in sooner. Regular visitors -- be prepared!

2. Friends Outside Information
Friends Outside renegotiates their contract annually with the CDCR, and the new fiscal year starts on July 1st each year. The 2009 contract was successfully completed, and our Friends Outside will be at the back of the parking lot again, ready to help us out.
BE AWARE
that Friends Outside is there to help us with extra clothes to change into if you show up with the wrong colors on, or with flip flops on your feet, or whatever is against the rules.
They can also help with a place for people to wait who cannot be allowed inside (because of a lack of approval, or having the wrong paperwork, or ??).
Also, remember that BRA underwire will set off the alarm, and you MAY NOT go braless. This means if your bra has an underwire, you will need to go in the bathroom and take out the underwire. The prison staff CANNOT give you a pair of scissors, so you're going to have to dig that bra wire out with your teeth and fingernails.
Remember, ladies:
Underwire Bra = no entry
No Bra = no entry
The Friends Outside trailer is a good place to change clothing and fix your bra. They also have scissors available.
