WOMENS ADVISORY COUNCIL (WAC) MEETING MINUTES

I.CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 1500 hours.

II.INTRODUCTIONS

All parties present introduced themselves and expressed a desire to work together. Ms. Pellizzari informed WAC of her responsibilities as the Family Services Coorinator for the institution. Ms. Pellizzari provided the WAC representatives with her flier detailing just what services she provides for the Inmate population. She requested that the fliers be placed in each of the housing units.

III. SCHEDULE NEXT MEETING

The next meeting is pending scheduling.

IV. OLD BUSINESS
A. BRAIDS
General Population is requestion an update regarding the amount of braids that can be worn by an inmate to Visiting.

Lt. Herron stated that there has been NO change in the number of braids that inmates are allowed to wear into the Visiting Area. Inmates will be allowed to wear (2) two braids as stated per the DOM. Lt. Herron further stated that "dredlocks" are exceptable, however they will be searched upon the conclusion of the visit.



V. New Business:

A. RESTROOM BREAKS / EMERGENCIES
General population is requesting clarification regarding restroom breaks. I the event that an inmate must utilize the restroom and it is not time for a restroom break, what is the proceudre? There are a lot of inmates that take bloos pressure medications which include water Pills. Refer to attached complaint.
Lt. Herron stated that the restroom breaks are scheduled.

WAC requested clarification regarding inmates that take a diuretics (water Pills) in conjunction with high blood pressure medications.
Lt. Herron stated he will accodate the ladies that take this type of medication. However they must provide proof of such.

WAC stated that they will contact Medical and request a list of those medications to be sent to the Visitig Lieutenant.

B. PROCESSING INCOMING INMATES TO VISITING: General population is requesting to know how long should an inmate have to wait before they are processed in for their visit? Please refer to the attached complaint.
Lieutenant Herron stated that restroom breaks will be completed first. He further stated that once the the restroom is completed, than strip searches that are waiting will be processed prior to allowing any incoming processing. Lieutenant Herron stated that there will be NO cross traffic in the inmate processing area. He did state that the maximum amount of time that an inmate should have to wait is fifteen (15) minutes.

VI: OPEN DISCUSSION

A. VISITING HANDBOOKS
General population is requesting to know if the Visiting Handbook has been revised?
Lieutenant Herron stated that the hanbook has been revised.

B. SPANISH VISITING HANDBOOK
general population is requesting that people who need spanish applications be supplied with Spanish handbooks.
Lieutenant Herron stated that he will look into this issue. He further stated that he would try to provide Spanish handbooks to accompany the Spanish applications that have been provided.

C. CHILDREN'S ROOM
On behalf of the inmate population WAC would like to thank the OLMOS Family for all the donations and support they have provided regarding the Children's Room

D. VISITING ROOM FOOD
General population would like to know why it is taking so long for the FOOD CART to go to the other side?
Lieutenant Herron stated that he will discuss this issue with the Vendor. He will make a suggestion about putting a few food items in the vending machines the morning of visiting. This will enable the visitors on the small side to purchase something to eat until the FOOD CART arrives.

VII. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 1524 hours.
